Other Types Of Accidents

There are many other types of accident that can occur where you may be entitled to compensation. For example, injury can occur if a product is faulty, for instance, a bottle of lemonade which explodes. Any injury due to a defect can give rise to a claim against the manufacturer or supplier of the product.

Criminal Injuries Victims who have suffered injuries as a result, can apply to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) for compensation.

To be eligible the Applicant must:

Make an application within 2 years of the incident; Have injuries serious enough to qualify for a minimum award under the scheme which is £1000.00

Have reported such to the police as soon as possible after the incident. The CICA will not pay solicitors’ costs in respect of applications under the Scheme; however we offer a contingency fee scheme whereby you only pay costs if you succeed, you pay nothing if you lose.

Claims against the police. The Police have a wide range of powers but if you are unhappy with the way you have been treated, you have a right to make an official complaint and in addition you may be able to claim compensation in certain circumstances.

If the Police have used excessive force against you, you maybe able to claim compensation for assault.  If you have been arrested or imprisoned without good cause, you may be able to claim compensation too.

If you can show that the Police have brought criminal charges against you maliciously then you can claim compensation too.

While you do have six years from the date of the assault / arrest to claim compensation it is better to do so sooner rather than later. Limitation dates – Time allowed to bring a claim – 6 years
