Assault and wounding are dealt with seriously by the courts. They can range from what are described as “common assault” up to grievous bodily harm.

Most types of assault, particularly if there is a “domestic” background will result in at least a community-based penalty being imposed and the more serious offences of wounding will be dealt with at the Crown Court with a significant custodial sentence being imposed.

Depending on the circumstances bail could also be refused until the case has concluded.
