It is extremely important to appreciate, that a cohabitant, does not have an automatic right to remain living in a property, which is in the sole name of the other cohabitant, should the relationship break down.

Six Points to consider when moving in together:

1. Take Legal Advice prior to buying a property
2. Deed of Trust
3. Ensure a Will is drafted, to illustrate your wishes upon death
4. Cohabitation Agreement
5. Review your circumstances/Cohabitation Agreement regularly, especially before any major life event, like a birth, or plan to move abroad
6. Get a reputable Family Law Specialist, one who is a member of Resolution (The Solicitors Family Law Association) like ourselves.
