If a loved one has already lost mental capacity and is therefore unable to manage their own affairs it is necessary for a relative, friend, or professional advisor to apply to the Court of Protection for the appointment of a Deputy.

A Deputy is a person appointed by the Court of Protection to deal with the financial affairs of a person who is unable to do so for himself.
